What the classification means: since 8 October 2020 gel blasters are regulated as firearms in South Australia. They fall within Class A firearms, which the SA Law Handbook lists as including paint-ball firearms including gel blasters.
Can you play: only with the appropriate firearms licence. A Category A firearms licence is required and a gel blaster must be bought through a licensed dealer. Possessing a firearm, including a gel blaster, without a licence that authorises it is an offence under section 9 of the Firearms Act 2015 (SA).
If you already hold one: SA operates a surrender and amnesty path for unwanted or unregistered blasters at police stations.
What this means for you: you cannot use a gel blaster in South Australia without holding a firearms licence and buying through a licensed dealer. Check the exact licence category and process with the source below before you act.
